Power restored to more than 23,000 customers in Genesee County

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - More than 23,000 Consumers Energy customers lost power in Genesee County on Thursday morning for more than an hour.

According to the power outage map, customers in Burton, Grand Blanc, northern Holly, Atlas Township and parts of Davison lost power around 9:10 a.m.

Consumers Energy spokesman Brian Wheeler said the outage affected multiple electric substations east of Dort Highway. Crews determined there was an equipment failure along Judd Road in Burton, which caused the outage.

Power was restored to all customers around 10:30 a.m., according to Consumers Energy.

Grand Blanc Community Schools closed nine of the district's 13 buildings early due to the power outage. The schools dismissing after a half day are:

  • Grand Blanc High School.
  • East Middle School.
  • Bobcat Innovation.
  • Brendel Elementary.
  • Cook Elementary.
  • Indian Hill Elementary.
  • Mason Elementary.
  • Myers Elementary.

Holy Family Catholic School in Grand Blanc also will be closing after a half day.

West Middle School, Anderson Elementary, McGrath Elementary and Reid Elementary in Grand Blanc all are planning to remain open for a full day.

Atherton Community Schools also dismissed students at 10 a.m. as a result of the power outage.
