Indiana Jan. 6 rioter who was recently pardoned by Trump, killed by sheriff's deputy
JASPER COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) - An Indiana January 6 rioter, who was recently pardoned by President Donald Trump, was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy Sunday.
According to WXIN,42-year-old Matthew Huttle of Hobart, Indiana was fatally struck by gunfire during a traffic stop involving a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.
The station reported that Huttle was pulled over on State Road 14 at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
When speaking to the outlet's reporters, the Indiana State Police (ISP) said the traffic stop led to the deputy attempting to arrest Huttle. Authorities said an "altercation" occurred, which ended when the deputy opened fire, killing Huttle.
ISP officials told WXIN that Huttle had been in possession of a firearm, but the station said no further details were provided in regard to the altercation or why the deputy moved to arrest Huttle.
According to WXIN, Huttle and his uncle, Dale Huttle, were both taken into custody for taking part in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The FBI determined that Matthew Huttle had been inside the Capitol Building for around ten minutes, and remained on Capitol grounds for hours, the outlet reported.
Authorities ended up locating and arresting Matthew Huttle out in Boise, Idaho, per WXIN.
Federal sources speaking to Nexstar's WXIN/WTTV confirmed that Huttle was recently pardoned by President Trump.
Dale Huttle reportedly said that he had "no regrets" and would "not say I'm sorry" for storming the Capitol, going on to describe himself as the "ultimate patriot," per a report from WXIN.
