CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A police pursuit led to the closure of all lanes on Interstates 71 and 75 on the Brent Spence Bridge after the suspect hid from police under the bridge.
Shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday, Covington Police received information that a vehicle connected with a known home invasion burglary suspect, identified as 38-year-old Joshua D. Baker of Cincinnati, was driving northbound on I-75 approaching I-275.
Officers attempted to stop the car, but it fled from officers. The suspect eventually lost control and crashed into two other cars on the lower deck of the Brent Spence Bridge.
The suspect fled the scene of the accident on foot and attempted to carjack one of the vehicles he ran into. He climbed over the side of the bridge and hid in the support beams underneath for several hours. Police were forced to shut down both northbound and southbound traffic on the bridge to safely facilitate the search for the suspect.
Officers from Cincinnati Police, Erlanger Police and the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force assisted in the search for the suspect. Several drones were deployed, as were rescue boats. The suspect was located, eventually surrendered and was safely taken into custody by Covington officers with assistance from the Covington Fire Department.
Baker was arrested for fleeing 1st degree, fleeing 3rd degree, wanton 1st degree, criminal mischief 1st degree, carjacking and driving on a suspended license. He also had four outstanding warrants. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Covington to be treated for exposure before being lodged in detention.
